Catt’s big brother has always been her protector,  her only constant in a restless port city where trouble brews as easily as ale.  But when danger begins circling too close, he makes a choice meant to keep her safe: he hides her away in a strict temple school and vanishes to sea.

Catt was never meant for cloisters and whispered prayers.

She escapes the school and sets off to find him, only to stow away on the wrong ship.

What follows is anything but a simple rescue.

Thrown headfirst into a world of piracy and storm tossed seas, Catt faces shipwrecks, stolen magic scrolls, daring thefts, and a sharp tongued mermaid eager to strike a dangerous bargain.  There’s also a man sailing under her brother’s stolen name… and a ruthless sea captain who is most certainly not her mother... no matter what she claims.

Each misstep drags Catt deeper into a mystery far larger than she imagined.

As secrets unravel and the ocean grows more treacherous, Catt must decide who she is without her brother’s shadow. Will the courage and cunning she discovers along the way be enough to outwit the forces ensnaring him and free him from the cryptic trap closing in?
